Deaf Culture Choice Board

• Read a short article or watch a video about Deaf culture.

• Complete a crossword related to what was learned.

• Draw a comic related to what was learned.

• Write a reflection about why this information was important.

ASL Board Game Day

Groups rotate through:

• Vocabulary Bingo

• Memory, Go Fish, and/or Matching with Vocabulary

• Charades

• Conversation dice

Review Stations

Station Ideas:

• Matching with Past Vocabulary

• Fingerspelling Practice

• Unscramble with Fingerspelling

• Picture Descriptions (one student signs what is happening in a picture and the other student picks the picture)

• Conversation cards

• Whiteboard Hangman Challege with Vocabulary

• Video station

Partner Challenge Tournament

Put students into groups of three.  Two students pick conversation cards with increasing difficulty.  The third student is the judge.

Students earn points for:

• More details

• Better grammar

• Classifiers

• Facial expressions

• Fluency

Students rotate roles.

Video Festival

Watch several teacher-selected ASL videos.

After each:

• Summarize

• Answer questions

• Retell

• Discuss

Deaf Community Case Study

Groups receive a scenario and solve a problem entirely in ASL.

Examples:

• Plan a Deaf event

• Solve travel issues

• Organize a fundraiser

• Plan a vacation

ASL Storytelling Festival

Groups create and perform original stories.  The stories could be recorded or signed for the teacher when he or she returns.

Escape Room

Create ntermediate-level puzzles using classifiers, grammar, and culture.

Documentary Study

Watch a Deaf documentary in segments with discussion after each.  Students could record the discussion or have a discussion with the teacher when he or she returns.
